MARKUS NICK
WEST CANADA & THE CANADIAN ROCKIES

This was another day with a lot of driving: 670km.

Okanagan Lake (close to Summerland)

The weather was bright in the morning: Clear skies and warm. Very good for swimming and having a sunbath. So, my first stop for exactly that reason was somewhere along the Wine Route at Okanagan Lake close to Peachland (Yes - there is a Canadian Wine Route! And it is in Okanagan Valley!).

Keremeos Grist Mill

In Keremeos, I gave a visit to the Grist Mill. They have a number of recurring demonstrations throughout the whole day. I enjoyed a demonstration of grinding in the mill itself. There are also a number of beds and small fields with more or less ancient sorts of crops, vegetables, and fruits.

Manning Provincial Park has some nice nature. From Cascade Lookout you get a decent view on the peaks and lakes around (e.g., Lightning Lake). The Lightning Lakes offer opportunities for hiking and cycling if you have/take the time, which I did not because, unfortunately, rain started when I was at Cascade Lookout and it kept raining throughout the afternoon and evening. Fortunately, this was the last rain I experienced in the holiday.

Beaver Pond

Beaver Pond was created by beavers - as the name says. But years ago, the beavers left the pond to settle somewhere else. So, only the lake and its name still remind of the beavers.

Close to Hope besides HW3 is Hope Slide. At Jan 9, 1965, more than 46 million cbm slided down from a mountain close by and covered valley and highway. The huge amount of boulders is still quite impressive.

From Hope to Lytton I drove through the canyon of Fraser River. At about 50km after Hope there is Hell's Gate.

And Hell's Gate was already closed when I arrived. You did not know that hell is only open from 8am-6pm pacific time? Well, you never stop learning. Anyway, since hell was closed, I could not visit the devil in person and my poor soul did not get in danger ;-)

From Lytton, I took the same way to Kelowna as on the day before.
