PARC DES CEVENNES & GORGES DE L'ARDECHE



The objective of this one-week trip was very simple: hiking and relaxing somewhere in the south where it is sunny and warm. First, we spent two days in the southern part of the Ardèche Region. Then we went to the Parc des Cévennes, which was our primary destination.

Ardèche

Itinerary (Sunday to Sunday)
  • Day 1: going there -> highway until Loriol, then: le Pouzin, N304, Privas, Aubenas, Les Vans
  • Day 2: Hike at Les Vans/Ardèche
  • Day 3: Thines, Bois de Paiolive, and Gorges de l'Ardeche (end at Ales)
  • Day 4: Alès/Gard to Le Rozier/Lozère via la Corniche des Cevennes and les Gorges du Tarn
  • Day 5: Hike in Gorges du Tarn
  • Day 6: Causse Méjean and Hikes at Florac/Lozère
  • Day 7: Florac, Dinner from 1.30 to 3.30 at Auberge Cevenole de La-Salle-Brunet, to Ales via Mont Aigoual, Vallee de Herault, Pont de Herault, Ganges, Anduze
  • Day 8: coming back
Useful Hints and Links
  • For descriptions of hikes, http://randonnee.cevenole.free.fr is a very good source.
  • A note for people, who do not know yet the area and plan to travel there: Many roads are small and some are also steep. Therefore, plan much more time for traveling. An average of 60-80km/h is impossible even with a rather small car like my Audi A3.
